Your loyalty card in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet

3 min read

Most customers already carry a wallet app. Apple Wallet comes with every iPhone, and Android phones use Google Wallet. A Puntjes loyalty card goes there, next to boarding passes and concert tickets, so nobody has to install an app of yours or remember a password.

The wallet card is in every Puntjes plan. This is how it reaches the customer and what it does once it is there.

How the card gets into the phone

The customer receives an email titled "Your loyalty card is ready". It has two buttons, "Add to Apple Wallet" and "Add to Google Wallet", and one tap puts the card in the phone. The links stay valid for 30 days. For a customer who would rather skip the wallet, the same email carries a QR code to show at the till.

You decide when that email goes out:

  • For every new customer. Switch on "Automatically email the wallet pass to new customers" in the settings. Every customer with an email address then receives the card as soon as your till, your webshop or you add them.
  • For one customer. Open the customer in the admin portal and press "Email pass to customer".
  • From your till or webshop. The Puntjes API can send the card as well, so a till can offer it at the moment a customer joins.

A customer without an email address can still collect points with a printed card. Both kinds of card point at the same balance.

What the customer sees

On the front of the card:

  • your logo and your name at the top, in your colours;
  • the points balance;
  • the customer's first name;
  • a QR code that the till scans.

You choose the colours of the card in the admin portal. Leave them empty, and the card takes your brand colours.

On an iPhone, the back of the card holds three more blocks: your rewards and their price in points, the information you write yourself, such as your opening hours, and the addresses of your shops with your phone number.

The card shows the balance, not a list of past purchases. That history stays in your admin portal.

The balance keeps itself up to date

After every purchase, reward or correction, and when points expire, Puntjes updates the card in the phone by itself. The phone shows a short notification; on an iPhone it reads "New balance: 120 points". Nobody has to open or refresh anything.

On an iPhone, the card can also show up on the lock screen when the customer is near one of your shops, as "Your loyalty card at" followed by your name. That needs an address for the shop in Puntjes.

At the till

The cashier scans the QR code on the card. It holds the customer's card code, so the till finds the customer and their balance in one scan. The purchase earns points, and a reward is redeemed on the same scan.

What it asks of you

Upload your logo, choose your colours if your brand colours do not suit a card, and switch on the automatic email. Everything after that happens without you: the card arrives, fills up with points and shows the right balance at the till.
